Firsts

HaPpY fiRsT dAy Of SUmMeR!

We’ve had a busy week around here conquering lots of “firsts.”

I’ve found out that my littles are not big fans of firsts.  We’ve been repeating “Fear not for I am with thee” over and over and over…

This week the twins went to the dentist for the first time…

They were all smiles when the check up was OVER!

I made sure that Mary Sorrels wore the gum ball machine dress so that I could take her picture.  It was the same one Catherine wore to her first dentist visit 3 years ago… Can you tell?

BIGS DENTIST

The littles also took swimming lessons for the first time.  Their last lesson was today.  It was a rough beginning, but we finished strong!  🙂

Some firsts for the big kids too…

They learned how to remove clothing in the water and make floatation devices using their jeans!

To welcome in summer, we FINALLY did the first few pages in our nature notebooks!  We did a few nature studies during our regular school year, but not as many as I’d hoped.  As a first time homeschooling mom, I was not very successful at fitting everything in!  I am so glad to make more time for this over the slow summer and keep it up during the fall!

I hope your First Day of Summer is a blast!

Enjoy HIS creation!

First Day Fun!

We had so much fun celebrating the first day of summer!  See the previous post for more info on our activities!

The twins did a color matching nature hunt!

The big kids went on a treasure hunt throughout the yard and house to find a snow cone machine.

We had fun with BIG bubbles using our homemade bubble solution and pipe cleaner bubble wands!

We learned all about mosquitos!  Here is one that we caught and observed with a magnifying glass!

First Day of Summer

It has been SO HOT here that it’s hard to believe it’s  still spring!  Summer officially starts tomorrow, Wednesday, June 20th!  I am planning a day of fun and learning for the kiddos!  (I am including links for my mommy friends.)

The big kids are going to find clues all over the house and yard for a treasure hunt!  The final clue will lead them to a Jelly Belly snow cone machine!  I found it on sale at Target last week, and I’ve been hiding it!  What could be better than snow cones to celebrate the first day of summer?

The twins are going to do a coloring matching nature hunt.

We are going to make BIG bubbles (or at least try!).    Here and here are some recipes and ideas for bubble wands.

We are going to take a little time to learn about something we have a lot of around here: mosquitos! 🙂  We may read Why Mosquitos Buzz in People’s Ears.

Here are a few mosquito ideas:

fun facts about mosquitos

mosquito life cycle

educational materials  like matching pages and mazes

The twins are learning about the letter Aa this week!  One of their Language Development posters is all about ants!  We are going to do a little study on ants  from Proverbs, too!

Changing seasons is a wonderful opportunity to get outside, spend time together, and marvel at God’s handiwork!  I can’t wait!

“The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the sky above proclaims his handiwork!” Ps 19:1
